This workshop is at an introductory or intermediate level. It is ideal for people who have never tried glass fusing. If you already have some experience, you'll be able to create a more intricate design.
I'll introduce you to the process of cutting sheet glass by scoring and breaking. You will also have a selection of frit (crushed glass) and stringers (long strands of glass) available to create your design. Most of the glass used in this workshop will be transparent, so that the colours shine brightly in sunlight.
You'll start with pre-cut and drilled triangles of clear glass, adding your own decoration. Everyone will have the flexibility to pursue their own creative ideas, though I'll also have a selection of examples to provide inspiration if needed. Most people will be able to decorate 4-6 triangles within the available time.
Making your project will probably take between 2 and 2½ hours, depending on how ambitious and dexterous you are. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided (vegan biscuits and oat milk will be available).
After the workshop, your piece of art will be taken back to my studio for firing. Within about 10-14 days, it will be ready for collection or delivery. I can post your art to you for a small extra fee.
The typical group size is 4-5. The maximum group size is 8 and the course will only run if there are at least 3 bookings. It’s fine to book a place on this workshop for well-behaved children aged 9+ as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult.
This workshop will be held at Broome Village Hall, DY9 0HA. This offers a light and airy space, with plenty of room to spread out if needed. There is wheelchair access and the adjacent car park has plenty of space for the size of group. Broome is a beautiful little village near to the Clent Hills, with lots of countryside walks and pubs if you are planning to include the workshop as part of a full day out.
I’m now a full-time glass artist, but previously taught for 20 years in a secondary school, so teaching is a big part of my life. I really enjoy combining the two as I pass on my skills and work with lovely people in a creative environment. In addition to my scheduled workshops, I am always happy to run workshops for a group of friends, starting from as few as four people in your own home or at Broome Village Hall. Please get in touch.
