This workshop is at an introductory level. It is ideal for people who have never tried glass fusing. If you already have some experience, you will be able to create a more intricate design.
You will be introduced to the process of cutting sheet glass by scoring and breaking. You will also use a selection of frit (crushed glass) and stringers (long strands of glass) to create a design based on a wildflower meadow, floral garden or bunch of flowers.
You will start with a pre-cut base of clear glass, choosing between a 10cmx10cm square, a 15cmx10cm rectangle, a 10cmx10cm hanging diamond or a 12cm diameter hanging circle. Making your project will probably take between 1½ and 2 hours, depending on how ambitious and dexterous you are.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided (vegan biscuits and oat milk will be available). After the workshop, your piece of art will be taken back to my studio for firing. Within about a week, it will be ready for collection or delivery. If appropriate for your chosen shape, you will also receive an oak stand to display your masterpiece. I can post your art to you and/or frame it for a small extra fee.
The typical group size is 4-5. The maximum group size is 8 and the course will only run if there are at least 3 bookings. It’s fine to book a place on this workshop for well-behaved children aged 9+ as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult.
This workshop will be held at Broome Village Hall, DY9 0HA. This offers a light and airy space, with plenty of room to spread out if needed. There is wheelchair access and the adjacent car park has plenty of space for the size of group. Broome is a beautiful little village near to the Clent Hills, with lots of countryside walks and pubs if you are planning to include the workshop as part of a full day out.
If you would like to try a larger project, or one with more difficulty, why not look at my Advanced Botanic workshop?
In addition to my scheduled workshops, I am always happy to run workshops for a group of friends. This could be at Broome Village Hall or in your own home. Please get in touch.
